Does the fireplace have to be where it's showed?

"period" colonial I'm assuming with the no electricity rule?

As stated in the entry image.....absolutely no electricity what so ever. This is a period/era room. All items MUST be placed where shown, NO electricity/gas, no wallpaper, no fully carpeted floors, nothing modern at all. I provided a color guide, and room examples, in the entry image. Good luck! I can't wait to see everyone's creations!

Verify for me that one can switch from TS4 to TS2, etc, as I didn't find it in the rules, please.  Thanks.

I googled a little bit and found so many different types of colonial styles (British, Dutch, Spanish etc.), many of them with features of local exotic architecture for example Carribean or Indian so I am confused. Can we choose one of these exotic places, is it okay? Or can you please be more specific and locate our geografic position if it is determined? Thanks in advance.
BTW, interesting theme but tough. Ive never been in colonial house :)

I assume looking at Carrie's example pictures that the room must be designed in American Colonial. There is lots on the internet so it shouldn't be too difficult. You have a span of 200 years that runs from primitive colonial to williamsburg colonial.

And yes, you may use any simsversion that you wish.

The colonial era spans approximately 200 years, and was considered global. However, as Betsy said, the example shown is of a colonial American room, and not a more exotic location. Any version of the Sims is allowed.
Good luck!!

Wow. That's a big room.

Edit: Also, why does that fireplace have to be "working?" It's not like Sims are going to use it. And the outside isn't important so you wouldn't see a chimney...

COLONIAL AMERICAN ROOM.  OK.  But definitely NOT the first colonists to America.

COLONIAL AMERICAN ROOM.  OK.  But definitely NOT the first colonists to America.

The Colonial American Era ran from 1492 until about 1763. So yeah, well over 200 years, and you're right, not the first colonists to America.

The overhead shot where we see the grid will show the exterior trim - thus, the chimney will be visible. Also, I requested it to be 'working' as a form of both the era, and the light source. You can build your own Colonial type fireplace and chimney, and simply use pre-lit logs (normally listed under lamps) as a type of light source.

A lot of the more primitive type Colonial fireplaces were also used as cooking areas, both in the kitchen, and the living area. As such, any type of larger fireplace that shows it is used for heating/lighting purposes is perfectly alright, so long as it's not modern.

If you're playing TS2, there are many colonial style fireplaces available throughout all the sites. I'll be more than happy to locate some if you'd like. :)

Let me know if you need any links. I'll post them in the WCIF thread for you for the DOTY Round 2 :)

Good luck!

Maybe it's just me but none of the 'working' TS4 fireplaces have chimneys so I hope we aren't going to get docked for this. Do you want us to have the fireplace on so you know that it isn't just deco?

Also I have like two choices for fireplaces that fit the theme, lol. If there are more colonial style TS4 fireplaces I would love some links. I might also benefit from the TS2 finds as I might be able to con someone into converting one for me  lolol

I didn't ask this for the previous round I didn't think it was important but is it OK to do my room in an existing house obviously using the floor plans required? Only in Sims 4 there aren't that many places to build lots to have them standing empty and basically I've got someone living in a house that I want to put the living room in. I find that I get better pictures if the house is occupied but don't want to be penalized if you can see bits of the other rooms in the overhead shot.

I also wonder if doors. I have not found any pictures of the doors so I do not know if they can be glass or not. Can I put a dining table? I thought you could use it to more than eating at.

BlueHopper, In build mode you can get a chimney and place it outside behind the fireplace and it functions as a working chimney. I did not realize this until I tried it. I had my Sims lite a fire and smoke came out of the chimney :)

Thanks for the info Carrie. I really had no idea what colonial style looks like and I was panicking inside. It should be a challenge to find furniture in TS4 for this, but it is a great theme. The good thing with these contests is we can learn new things. :)

I wasn't planning on having the fireplace lit...but now I'm wondering if that's a requirement.
As for the chimney, all Sims 2 players have to do is place a maxis fireplace, enable cheats, and delete the face of the fireplace. The chimney should stay and you can place whatever fireplace you want there.  I'm not worried about that as a Sims 2 player, but was wondering for Sims 4 entries because they have limited options.

Michelle: absolutely wonderful!

Lit is an option. We have judges that know if a TS3 or 4 fireplace is a working one, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I think I hit cancel instead of post last night . . .

Carrie, may we please have a larger version of the color/texture samples on the bottom right of the theme info picture?
Thank you.

If you would like to see one of the houses built by one of my ancestors in the 1600's, check it out   http://www.stamfordhistory.org/hbh_tour.htm (http://www.stamfordhistory.org/hbh_tour.htm)

I think the house would fit inside the room for our round. I thought I'd learn more about colonial homes and how they looked by checking out my ancestors. Most of the famous ones are from the late 1800's and more ostentatious than what this round calls for, though. Guess that's what happens when one's forefathers go from Puritans to Power.

Carrie and judges, in one place it states only certain games can be in our entry, but in your suggestions with links on the WCIF thread you say we can also have dominoes which was not on the initial list of games.
Will I be penalized for adding a game of checkers?

It's fine Petunia. Not to worry about that. The idea is to not have stuff like... Monopoly, or...video games, modern type board games, crayons....that sort of thing. Checkers is fine. :)

I was suppose to see friends today but it was cancelled. So instead, with love hearts

Michelle@   love your picture over the fireplace, with the pans hanging in the fireplace.
Certin@   The curved roof makes the whole room look cosy, the room is enormous but don't look it.
Poppy2@   love you color scheme, you have dressed and decorated that room beautifully.
Pikkonolodlee@   Love your clean look, each thing has it own place.
13pumpkin@   Each picture is like a painting. The theme is spot on.
Betsy4Arts@   Love your mural in the last picture, the nice blue color-scheme makes it really classy.
BlueHopper@   That entry is fabulous, every furniture feels heavy and you have really created a colonial living room.
Simzzgurl@   I like that your room present the activity in the room, piano, spinning wheel and so on.
Milklin83@   I fined the picture over the fireplace very inviting, would love to sitt down have a coffee and some cake.
trijntsje@   You have chose a nice color scheme and it really works with the lighting, and you also have a bit of a different layout of the room that makes it nice.
Ivyrose@   That last close up picture of the desk, beautiful. I like the blue walls and shelf's.
Carrie@   Beautiful, look lived in and lots of activity possibly s in that room. Nicely decorated and dressed.
tahoe@   Green has never looked this good! Beautiful, and all the games. Card house on the table, love it!
kacicka777@   Very serene, the light and airy feel to this design, pretty as a picture every item.

Good luck everyone, and enjoy playing and building in sims.... :pinkieheart

Lol freaking out is putting it mildly. Roll on Wednesday, I'm terrible at waiting.

Everyone have done so well in this round, I have to say it was really hard, theme. I was under such time pressure, but at least I went for it, and you cant do more than that, and If we get eliminated we always have the JFF.

Design is hard, it is personal. What I might like is not what you might like, as long as one got the criteria rights...You can always hope for the best.

BUT waiting for terrible :sad3: :facepalmxd: :beg:
